Best Drama Short

£1,500

The Drama or Comedy Short which is original has a strong and coherent script and is delivered in a convincing and engaging way.

Open to anyone except those that have a broadcast credit as a producer or director

Best Factual Short

£1,500

The short-film which documents real-life (historical or contemporary), shows originality and is delivered in a convincing and engaging way.

Open to anyone except those that have a broadcast credit as a producer or director

Best Performance

£1,000

The performer draws in the audience and delivers their role in a convincing and engaging way.

People with previous onscreen credits are not eligible for this prize.

Best Community Short

£1,000 & FilmG/BBC ALBA screening event in the community

A film by a community/community group which gives insight into the community or explores themes important to the community, shows originality and is delivered in a convincing and engaging way. 

Open to any community group. If collaboration were to take place between a film-maker and the community, the film-maker should act as facilitator and the prize will be awarded to the community group.

Best Student Film

1 month paid work-placement with media company

The student film, drama or documentary, which shows originality, is well directed and is delivered in a convincing and engaging way.

Open to anyone enrolled as a full-time student at the time of submission (6 January 2012)

Best International Short

Special Guests (2) at the Awards Ceremony

Best International Film:

No film was selected by the judges to receive this prize.

Best First-time Director (Industry)

£1,000

The director whose film shows a clear vision, well directed actors and through creative shot composition and selection, connects the story with the audience effectively.

Open to people with previous broadcast credits (excluding producers and directors)

Best First-time Director (New Entrant)

Shadow an experienced director for a week on a shoot (shoot tbc)

The director whose film shows a clear vision, well directed actors and through creative shot composition and selection, connects the story with the audience effectively.

The prize was open only to people who had never received a broadcast credit.

FilmG Theme Award

Trophy

The film which interprets the FilmG theme ‘Air an Stairsich’ (On the Threshold) in the most interesting, original and engaging way.

Open to all adult entrants.

12-17 Prizes

Best Film

£1,000

The film, in the 12-17 category, which excelled in multiple areas of filmmaking including: originality of idea; script; production; and performance.

Best Performance

Day out on BBC ALBA Programme

The individual (within any genre) who delivers their role most convincingly within the context of the script and themes of the film.

Four performers will be shortlisted and four will receive a commendation. 

Best Script

Trophy

The film which conveys its ideas through its script (dialogue and action) most effectively.

FilmG Theme Award

Trophy

The film which interpreted the FilmG theme in the most original, engaging and inspirational way.

Best Production

Trophy

The film that demonstrated best evidence of effective planning and innovative use of resources. Attention was given to specific areas like: camera work; sound; lighting; location; make-up; costume and sets, dressing and props.

FilmG Award for Gaelic

Trophy

The film where the Gaelic dialogue is best orated in a clear and fluid manner.

Best Performance Commendations

Although not making the shortlist, these actors were commended by the judges for their performances.
