The Rules

1. By submitting an entry to the competition, entrants agree to be bound by the rules and guidelines. Receipt of an entry by Cànan/MG ALBA amounts to acceptance of the rules.

2. All entries must be U/PG rated as specified by the BBFC guidelines: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/classification/guidelines/pg.

3. Entries submitted to the competition must be in the Scottish Gaelic language. It is not a condition of entry that Gaelic be the language of the production process; however, Gaelic must be the language of the end product. English content where necessary and relevant will be allowed at the discretion of the judges.

4. Submissions must be between 3 and 5 minutes long, including credits. Submissions longer or shorter than the specified running time will not be accepted.

5. Adult entrants with a previous broadcast credit as a producer or director on a drama, documentary or live entertainment show are excluded from entering the competition.

6. Animated shorts will be accepted, but those submitting animations should be aware that FilmG does not have a separate judging category for animation.

7. FilmG 2012 is open to anybody over 12 years of age. The young people’s prize category applies exclusively to entrants between 12 and 17 years of age, entrants over 18 years will be judged in the adult categories.

8. Entrants under 18 years of age require the signature of a parent or guardian as a condition of entry to the competition. Please download a consent form to accompany your submission.

9. Entrants consent to being filmed, interviewed and recorded by Cànan/MG ALBA where required for marketing and PR purposes for the competition. In the case of entrants under 18 years, Cànan/MG ALBA will seek written consent from parents/guardians.

10. Entrants shall consent to grant non-exclusive, unlimited online and broadcast use of work submitted to the competition to MG ALBA.

11. Cànan/MG ALBA reserve the right to refuse any entry to the competition for any reason at their absolute discretion.

12. The decisions of the judges are final. Neither correspondence nor discussion concerning any decision shall be entered into.

13. No entries will be returned. It is therefore advisable for each entrant to retain a copy where appropriate.

14. The entry submitted must be the entrant(s) own original work and not infringe upon the copyright or intellectual property rights of others. Please refer to important information on website.

15. The entrant(s) must be the sole lawful owner of the copyright in the entry.

16. There must be no agreement with any other person which shall in any way interfere with any rights granted to MG ALBA.

17. Cànan/MG ALBA reserve the right to refuse entries submitted that, through content or language, are considered by Cànan/MG ALBA as offensive, defamatory, profane or pornographic. Entries that contain or disclose private or personal matters or personal data concerning any person without their written consent will also be refused. 18. Cànan/MG ALBA will refuse entries that infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others including unauthorised copyright text, music, images or programmes, trade secrets or other confidential information.

19. The description of the awards prizes and selection process in any competition literature or other medium is not binding and may be changed by Cànan/MG ALBA. We may make additional awards or prizes but shall not be obliged to make any award or prize if it is considered inappropriate to do so.

20. Cànan/MG ALBA shall not be obliged to make use of any entry and shall not be liable for any loss of publicity or enhancement of reputation.

21. Entries are made at an entrant’s own expense and Cànan/MG ALBA shall not be liable to reimburse any expenses incurred in making an entry.

22. Cànan/MG ALBA reserve the right to refuse entry if the technical specifications listed on the FilmG website are not adhered to. Please read the Technical Specifications page carefully before making a submission.

23. Cànan/MG ALBA reserve the right to refuse entry if submission forms accompanying an entry are incorrectly or insufficiently filled in.

24. All entries to the competition must be received by 6 January 2012. Any entries received after this date will not be considered.

25. Employees of MG ALBA/Cànan may enter a film to the competition for a judges’ critique and their films will be shown online, but they are ineligible for any prizes.
