Schools workshop timetable already filling up!

Over the last couple of weeks, since the school term began, the FilmG team have been busy contacting schools across the country to keep teachers up to date with the latest FilmG developments as well as to arrange filming workshops at schools over the coming months.

FilmG offer story development workshops to schools/teachers who haven’t participated in FilmG before in order to help the get to grips with writing their scripts. For the regular participants there are video tutorials and lesson plans available online that will take teachers and pupils through the various steps from coming up with an idea, writing the script and general prepping for the filming day.

To help young people engage with this year’s theme, the FilmG team have used augmented reality when creating the posters to add a new dimension to the characters. All you need to do is download the LAYAR app and scan the poster and watch the characters tell you a bit about themselves! Play the video for a sneak peek.

Teachers are also being asked to think about when they’d like to book their slots for their filming and editing workshops. Each workshop lasts a day and pupils will record their film on the first day and then edit it on the second. Already schools are booking their slots so it be sure to get a place, teachers should book early.

Remember this year:

  • Films can be between 1 and 5 minutes in length
  • There is a new prize for the best script – so enter your written script into the competition
  • There is now an award for the Best Mobile Short
  • There is not a prize for the best music video this year

Please get in touch if you are a teacher of the leader of a youth group and are interested in making a film for this year’s competition. Good luck!
