Gairloch High School Pupil Scores with Ross County Game

Anndra Cumming, from Laide in Wester Ross, claimed his prize for the FilmG Best Sports Commentary last week when he attended the Ross County v Dundee game at Victoria Park, Dingwall.

The game was being filmed by Nemeton TV for BBC ALBA and Anndra (13) was able to go behind the scenes and see firsthand how a football match is filmed as well as spend time with professional commentators, Hugh Dan MacLennan and Alex O’ Henley.

Anndra said:

“I’m really happy that FilmG organised this fantastic visit for me. It was great seeing what goes on behind the scenes and everyone was keen to tell me about what they do.

“The only downside is that my team didn’t win and are now relegated!”

Anndra won this prize when he submitted his sports commentary video to the annual Gaelic short film competition FilmG.

The competition, which is funded by MG ALBA and delivered by Cànan Graphic Studio on the Isle of Skye, has been running now for ten years and has unearthed a wealth of Gaelic on-screen and behind the scenes talent.

Project Manger Floraidh Forrest said:

“It was really great that Nemeton TV were willing to give us this fantastic prize. Experiences like this leave a lasting impression on young people and I hope Anndra will remember it for a long time.

“My thanks to everyone behind the scenes that made the evening so special and especially to Hugh Dan and Alex for being so generous sharing their experience and giving Anndra some great advice.”

FilmG will be launching its theme for next year’s competition soon. Entrants, young and old, are asked to submit a Gaelic film that is up to five minutes in length. For more information visit the FilmG website, http://www.filmg.co.uk.
