We are super excited here at FilmG HQ as, for the first time ever, the Awards Ceremony is to be broadcast on BBC ALBA.
To coincide with this, BBC ALBA has announced that four of the best short films to date will be shown on the channel in the run up to the awards programme, which is scheduled for Sunday 11 February. We hope that followers of FilmG will be just as excited as we are with this news!
Remember that though the deadline is fast approaching there is still time to make an award-winning Gaelic short film. Project manager Floraidh Forrest said:
“This is our tenth year running FilmG and we’re ambitious that this will be the best yet.
“In previous years we’ve had entries that have won awards having been filmed in the weekend before the deadline!
“We are also extremely excited that in the run-up to this year’s award ceremony on the 9th February, some of the best films from our archive will be shown on BBC ALBA for the first time.”
Head of BBC Gaelic Services Margaret Mary Murray commented:
"We're delighted that BBC ALBA will be broadcasting coverage of the FilmG Awards in February. FilmG has provided a real inspiration to a generation of creative, young people, and so we are also pleased to be able to showcase four powerful films in the build up to our awards coverage."
Student Reece MacKay, pictured above with fellow students, was a winner at FilmG when he was still at Ardnamurchan High School. Now a student on Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s media course, he said:
“It was a really proud moment to win an award at FilmG, and has certainly helped inspire me to continue to study and hopefully build a career in the TV industry. I would encourage other young filmmakers who are thinking about entering the competition to do so!”
A number of previous winners have been able to develop their careers in the film and television industry.
This year there are a variety of cash prizes as well as opportunities for work placement with production companies, including a week-long placement with BBC THE SOCIAL for the winner of the Best Mobile Short.
