Chan Eil
Evie Waddell
’S e òran fèin-sgrìobhte a th’ ann an Chan eil a tha na mheasgachadh ceannairceach den suarach agus dona le fidheall is giotàr traidiseanta agus sèist gu math tarraingeach a bheir cuireadh do chom-pàirteachadh agus a bhrosnaicheas gluasad. Tha a’ bhidio, anns a bheil inneach is deiseachan beothail, a’ nochdadh measgachadh roghainneil de dh’ fhaireachdainnean nach bi boireannaich tric a’ faireachdainn gun urrainn dhaibh a chuir an cèill a’ toirt a-steach faireachdainnean fearg agus fiadhaich, mar a tha Evie agus a co-obraiche dannsa Fran Till ag ràdh ‘chan eil’ ri dùilean àbhaisteach agus ‘a’ gabhail àite. ‘ ann an spreadhadh neo-àbhaisteach (don t-saoghal thraidiseanta) de dhannsa spòrsail, ris an fhuaim Ghàidhlig eile/ùr-nodha/bailteil seo.
Chan eil is a self-penned song that is a rebellious mix of the frivolous and the serious with traditional fiddle and guitar and a very catchy chorus that invites participation and inspires movement. The video, featuring vivid textures and costumes, portrays an eclectic mix of moods that women don’t often feel they can express including anger and wildness, as Evie and her dance collaborator Fran Till say ‘no’ to typical expectations and ‘take up space’ in an atypical (for the Trad world) explosion of playful dance, to this Gaelic alternative/modern/urban sound.
